Porn star Bruce is in a crisis of purpose: no one is interested in his once celebrated avant-garde mixture of sex, parody and documentary film anymore. When the lesbian art film maker Googie wants to make a portrait of him, he sees his chance for a big comeback. Googie mixes scenes from Bruce's ambitious work with self-indulgent statements by the filmmaker and interviews with companions such as the sexually reckless Friday Sisters and his hustler boyfriend Pierce. Bruce has no idea that Googie is really just using him to push ahead with a completely different project: a film about the true avant-garde star R. Kern.

Inspired by Fellini's classic ACHTEINHALB (1963), Bruce LaBruce's second feature film is a semi-autobiographical reflection on the deep fall of a self-destructive porn auteur. Brimming with references to established and less established film history, SUPER 8 ½ repeatedly pushes the boundaries of good taste - and beyond. The lustfully self-reflexive biopic is also a wild parade of punk and underground stars such as Vaginal Creme Davis, Ben Weasel and Richard Kern. A classic of queer cinema!
