Billie Wilder's SUNSET BLVD. is not only a classic of film noir, but also a bitter, black-humoured satire on the "Golden Age of Hollywood". Louis B. Mayer (head of MGM and one of the most powerful men in the dream factory at the time) got carried away after a screening of the film and said that Wilder should be tarred and feathered and chased out of town.
