Lubitsch's acting career began in the lost 1910 film version by Max Reinhardt, and a decade later - behind and as a hunchbacked juggler in front of the camera for the last time - he created an opulent Baghdad of the 9th century, in which the sheikh's favourite wife falls in love with another, while her husband has his sights set on a dancer with several suitors ...
