Beginning with Guy Fihman's Ultrarouge-Infraviolet, ‘the film that was the greatest revelation of the Exprmtl 5 festival’ (René Micha 1974), this programme brings together films in which materiality and visual perception come to the fore of the cinematic experience. The space on the screen is redefined through various ways of engaging with the film substrate itself: chromatic permutations, textural mosaics, multiple exposures, dust storms, body-close projections.
