For her first feature-length documentary film, Kateryna Gornostai returns to the classroom - as she did in her feature film STOP-ZEMLIA (IFFI #31). She and her team spent over a year filming in Ukrainian schools, the locations of which she indicates in the film with the distance to the front or to the Russian or Belarusian border. The result is a mosaic of sensitive observations that conveys what it means to live in war without showing it directly. Despite all the organizational difficulties, the school is more than ever a place of cohesion, shaped by it.A loving ode to cinema as a living space: the very last film screening in an aging one-room cinema in Taipei shows the martial arts classic DRAGON INN from 1967. In this setting, Tsai Ming-liang stages melancholically beautiful, sometimes wordlessly funny miniatures in perfectly balanced camera angles. For some in the audience, the film is very personal, some have completely different motives for their visit. The cashier is now looking everywhere for the projectionist. She wants - for the last time? - to share her steamed bread with him.
