The Mediterranean has always been one of the most important hubs in the world. It is crossed day and night, used and enjoyed, feared and loved. “Stories from the sea” portrays people on three ships who experience this maritime space as a place of longing, a workplace and a place of human encounters. The all-encompassing blue water, the constant movement of the waves and the distant horizon are elements that unite all the characters, no matter how different their motivation for going to sea may be.

"Jola Wieczorek portrays people who are traveling the Mediterranean on three different ships - and for very different reasons: One is enjoying a cruise, the others want to find themselves on an extended sailing trip with a few like-minded people. And young Jessica Willers, who comes from a family of seafarers, is completing a seemingly endless training course on a freighter - naturally, she is the only woman on board. The busy Viennese cameraman Serafin Spitzer is responsible for the harmonious, concentrated black-and-white photography of this domestic feature film debut." - Michael Omasta, Falter
