Sterne
Three days in 1943: In Bulgaria, disillusioned sergeant Walter meets Ruth, a Greek Jew who is being deported to Auschwitz with others. When she asks him to help a fellow prisoner, he supports her as best he can. The two fall in love and Walter does everything he can to save Ruth from being transported away... How can one remain decent when there is only ruthlessness around him? Based on the personal experiences of screenwriter Angel Wagenstein, Wolf and his cameraman find emotionally powerful images that still make STERNE one of the most authentic anti-fascist films. After this early examination of the crimes of the Shoah is shown at the Cannes Film Festival amid loud protests from the Federal Republic of Germany, it receives the Special Jury Prize.
