Space Dogs
As a refresher, to get in the mood or simply to rediscover - the predecessor to the new film by Elsa Kremser and Levin Peter: ‘A documentary fairy tale that tells of proud Moscow street dogs and their mythical ancestor: the dog Laika, who was the first living creature to be shot into space in a space capsule in 1957. We follow the dogs through the night and into the dawn, and then they hijack the film and make it clear that they are not pets and that their life in the city is a life in the wild. In archive footage, the test subjects of the past patiently endure what they do not understand, while the strays today allow the people with the camera an insight into their strange world. A border becomes visible, begins to shimmer, is crossed.’ (Alexandra Seitz)
