In autumn 1950, two women are forced into labour in a uranium mine. There, former anarchists toil side by side with former SS men – ensuring tensions between them... It is nothing short of a miracle that Wolf was able to make the film at all: begun during the political ‘thaw’, it soon attracted the attention of high-ranking party officials who were uncomfortable with its portrayal of the situation – and it ended up being banned for years.
