In 1799 New York City, the enlightened forensic scientist Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp) is sent to the remote village of Sleepy Hollow as punishment for his secularism and insistence on using modern science and technology. There he can show what his modern world view can be used for, as three people were recently beheaded there by unknown hands. But Ichabod, haunted by repressed childhood memories, soon realizes that the perpetrator is not unknown to most of the villagers...
