Sissi – die junge Kaiserin

Intrigue, unrest, tensions - both within the imperial family and outside it. Having barely landed in the golden cage, Sissi is drawn out into the world ... This second part is interesting against the backdrop of current events: the Hungarian uprising practically inscribes itself into the production circumstances of the film by casting fugitives as characters, in which Austria, having just become sovereign itself, knows how to defend its political claims. Even the euphoria with which the main actors were celebrated throughout Europe is comparable to that of the crowned heads portrayed. It seems only half as bizarre that the film was even shown in competition at Cannes, alongside THE SEVENTH SIEGEL or A DECEIVED TO DEATH HAS ESCAPED.
