Silber, Speik und Säumerei

Traces and traditions of the legendary late Middle Ages can still be found around the Triebener Tauern region today. Excerpts from the life of a miner and a muleteer bring this period back to life. Scientifically researched and speculative details as well as oral legends are presented to the public with the help of historical illustrations. The region of the Mur Valley can be experienced on film for the first time in its medieval guise - from the roguish knight of Offenburg (narrated by the German-language voice of Harrison Ford) to the legend of the demise of the mine in Oberzeiring.

The life of the miners is an important theme of the film. The importance of so-called pack animals and their routes, which were essential for the transport of goods, is also dealt with. One example is the speik, which was traded throughout the entire Alpine region as far as Venice from a European perspective.

In addition to the original medieval show mine Museum Oberzeiring, many places in the region such as Reifenstein Castle and Offenburg Castle were used as filming locations. The documentary also highlights historically significant locations, such as the Gasthaus am Ellenbogen in Hohentauern, the execution site in Unterzeiring and a historic scythe forge in Wasserleith.
