21 June 1941: filmmaker Mendele returns from Kyiv to his Galician shtetl to settle a private matter. Neither he nor the inhabitants have any idea what catastrophe is about to unfold: in 24 hours, the Nazi invasion known as Operation Barbarossa will begin ... In his masterful debut, Ady Walter depicts a vibrant Eastern Jewish-Ukrainian world that - like the "E" in the film's title - no longer exists. The bitter irony of the story: the replica of the village, including the consecrated synagogue, which was to serve as a museum after filming, was also destroyed. The film was made six months before the start of the Russian war of aggression.
