Sense and Sensibility
After the death of their father, sisters Elinor (Emma Thompson) and Marianne Dashwood (Kate Winslet) are forced to live very frugally, as their entire fortune goes to their half-brother from their father's first marriage. This means that the women have to sell their magnificent home and give up their luxurious lifestyle. There are also problems in matters of love: while Elinor's reserve prevents her from getting closer to her beloved Edward Ferrars (Hugh Grant), the impulsive Marianne falls for the daredevil Willoughby (Greg Wise).
The two sisters, who are devoted to each other in close friendship, are, however, of opposite natures: while the more pragmatic Elinor is guided by reason and always knows how to maintain discipline and etiquette, the romantic Marianne likes to give free rein to her feelings and passions. Ultimately, each must endure difficult times of grief and heartbreak before finally finding true love...
