Seine Hoheit der Eintänzer
Vienna unleashed
The early post-war period in Vienna. The monarchy is finally gone. The Habsburgs? Cursed on the streets! Saint Germain, currency devaluation, inflation, hunger, child misery weigh heavily. An impoverished aristocrat keeps his head above water by dancing in a bar. He comes under suspicion of having stolen from his beloved Duchess Victoria, but it was his brother who secretly sold the jewels. Anny Ondra as the dancer is the fairy who turns everything around.
The copy shown, produced using the dye-inking process, underwent a complicated reconstruction process. The supporting film conveys a picture of the end of the monarchy, the early republic, and refers to the situation of the time in punchlines. (Helmut Pflügl)
