Sehen und gesehen werden
Loved, hated, adored - in the garish collage of images MONDO CANE, which established an entire genre, what (doesn't) belong together comes together. It only takes one cut from the drunks on the Reeperbahn to the posh New York restaurant, as it does from the polluted islands of Bikini Atoll to bikini-wearers turning the heads of sailors. Rituals of the mechanised world meet those of indigenous tribes. In the speculative spectacle, it all hits the same: a dog's world, this earth! Cavara soon found this approach more than questionable. He leaves the trio and, in THE WILD EYE, makes an unpleasant reckoning with the methods of his colleagues. Whether and what traps he himself might fall into in the process is what we have to find out this evening ... (Florian Widegger)
