Schwarzer Jäger Johanna

FromJOHANNES MEYER

WithMARIANNE HOPPE, PAUL HARTMANN, GUSTAF GRÜNDGENS, FITA BENKHOFF, MARGARETE ALBRECHT

Year1934

Duration99min.

In the first film, in which Gründgens can be seen together with his second wife Marianne Hoppe, he plays the sinister and devious spy Dr Frost - a deus ex machina, a demon, a "spectre of the diplomatic parquet". In February 1934, Göring appoints Gründgens as provisional director of the Prussian State Theatre, and from October he officially takes on the role of artistic director. His contacts within the regime made him almost untouchable, and some of his films were propaganda material, even though he often denied and suppressed them. Paul Hartmann's Major Korfes manifests a pervasive cult of leadership. SCHWARZER JÄGER JOHANNA was banned by the Allies due to the content it conveyed, but was released in 1980 by the FSK for ages 6 and up.
