Scham
Shame has defined Aaron's life since childhood: his mother repeatedly beat him and was also psychologically abusive towards him. When he was seven years old, he was sexually abused by a stranger – shortly afterwards, Aaron himself began having sex with other children of the same age. Today, as a young adult, he is haunted by the traumas of his past every day. But he no longer wants to remain silent: after four years of silence, he visits his mother.
Confrontational, relentless, truthful. Following his medium-length films GEHIRNTATTOO (2021), winner of the Hof Gold Prize, and LANGER LANGER KUSS (2023), which premiered at the Berlinale in the Perspektive Deutsches Kino series, director and writer Lukas Röder presents an unforgettable, intense feature film debut with SCHAM. In 2025, the film celebrated its world premiere at the Max Ophüls Prize festival, where it was awarded the Ecumenical Jury Prize with the words: ‘A film that needs to be talked about!’
