Just as New York resident doctor Wil (Michelle Krusiec) embarks on a passionate romance with the charming dancer Vivian (Lynn Chen), her mother (Joan Chen) suddenly shows up at her door: unmarried and pregnant. A minor scandal in Wil's traditional Chinese family! And so, with her mother's arrival, a whole host of cultural and intergenerational conflicts arise, forcing the two women to reevaluate their relationship.
