Sally
In June 1983, Sally Ride made history: she became the first US astronaut to fly into space on board the Challenger space shuttle. But it was a rocky road. As an out lesbian woman, she struggled with open sexism and homophobia from her NASA colleagues and the press. A confession to her partner Tam O'Shaughnessy, with whom she has been in a secret relationship for 27 years, seems impossible.
In her moving portrait, director Cristina Costantini skillfully interweaves the two spheres of Ride's life: her professional career as a brilliant astrophysicist and space traveler in a toxic, patriarchal environment; and her unknown private life, which Tam O'Shaughnessy recounts sensitively and in dazzling colors.
