Saint Omer
A provocative story about women, at once an exploration of womanhood and motherhood and a gripping courtroom drama that lingers long after it ends. Based on a true story, the film follows writer Rama as she attends a trial: the accused student has left her infant daughter to the rising tide at a French seaside town, causing her death. We hear her story, from her childhood in Senegal to her relationship with a much older man in France. The film addresses racism and colonialism, birth and death.
