Réveil sur Mars
11-year-old Furkan dreams of flying to Mars in a spaceship - that way, nobody would be able to harm his family. Persecuted as Rom:nja, they had to leave Kosovo and have now been waiting for years for their asylum application to be approved in Sweden. Furkan's space fantasies are also an expression of the overwhelming pain of the illness of his sisters Ibadeta and Djeneta, who suffer from resignation syndrome: an apathetic, coma-like condition that lasts for months, sometimes even years, and which particularly often affects traumatised refugee children in asylum situations that are perceived as hopeless.
Dea Gjinovci provides an empathetic insight into the strength of the refugee family. Her impressive film shots skilfully translate the contrast between the confinement of the sisters' living environment and the younger brothers' desire for freedom.
