Reappearance / Sommerspiele
Fascinated by the German avant-garde dancer Valeska Gert (1892-1978), choreographer and dancer Eszter Salamon has already dedicated the performance series THE VALESKA GERT MONUMENTS to this exceptional artist. In her first film REAPPEARENCE, a manifesto against forgetting, Salamon now returns to this fascination. In her follow-up work SOMMERSPIELE, she draws on the 1936 Berlin Olympics, whose opening was co-organised by choreographers with an affinity for the Nazis, while others - like Valeska Gert - were ostracised or murdered by the Nazis. Both films are interventions in the historical canon. (ImPulsTanz)
