Radioman (The Soundman)
After 1938, a Jewish family from Vienna finds temporary refuge in Brussels. The older daughter is an enthusiastic actress and is accepted by the radio play studio of the national radio station. At the same time, a talented sound engineer full of quirky ideas begins his internship there. The radio waves crackle. The art of speech and sound make thoughts and feelings so audible and visible that they simply get under your skin. The film breaks new cinematic ground by visualising the development of sound with the chaos of the invasion of Belgium in 1940 and the imprisonment of all those who are not approved by the government in unique images. The film manages to combine political realism with magical realism.
