QUEERTACTICS-PERLEN 3: Queerasian (Self-)Representations
Our third PERLEN program is dedicated to Asian queers.
In an intimate and glamorous portrait, Eric Chuang explores the interplay of gender, cultural heritage, and self-expression as drag queen Felicia Oh in the Asian diaspora. Similarly biographically inspired but more experimental, *Mooncake* reflects on the influence of childhood memories and feelings on gender queerness with captivating visuals. In a dramatic musical, *Little Sky* finds neither the approval of their father nor acceptance but instead discovers (self)love in a non-binary community. Femme Asian Bottom Marc temporarily leaves the queer community in Iowa to design fabulous costumes for a children’s theater in Guam and spend time with their distant parents. Finally, singer Mi-hae is left by her girlfriend and kicked out of the band, only to find herself in a new, far better constellation. Butch Up, Baby!
