Antonio and Paolo want to get married, which should not be a problem in today's Berlin. Against all expectations, however, they decide to hold the wedding in their conservative Italian home village. While Antonio's mother simply wants to see her son happy, the supposedly liberal father reaches his limits. To make matters worse, Antonio's ex-girlfriend turns up. She obviously still loves him and puts the relationship of the two men to a hard test.

Director Alessandor Genovesi manages the feat of taking a look at the lives of two homosexuals that is as romantic as it is socially critical. It is true that integration and tolerance are still part of good taste in parts of our society, but do we actually live these values? This question fell on very open ears in Italy, where the film quickly became a box office hit. MY BIG CRAZY ITALIAN WEDDING plays very cleverly with clichés and prejudices, whether German, Italian, Christian or those of the gay community, without using the proverbial index finger.
