Psycho II
Part of the Special Series: NACHTBLENDE
“One of the most slept on horror sequels around.”
— Chris on Letterboxd
Twenty-two years have passed — but motels don’t forget.
Psycho II dares to do the unthinkable: return to one of the most iconic crime scenes in film history. And it succeeds! Not as a mere repetition, but as an unsettling homecoming in color, with a Norman Bates who appears older, more polite, and disturbingly normal. Welcome back, you guys! And a warm welcome as well to writer and film theorist Drehli Robnik, who will prepare us for the film with an introductory talk.
After more than two decades of psychiatric treatment, Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) is released, officially “cured.” Without supervision or a transitional program, he returns to the site of his crimes: the run-down motel and the ominous house on the hill. Norman reopens the motel, finds a job at a diner, and befriends the waitress Mary (Meg Tilly), who eventually moves in with him. But soon, the first disturbing signs appear: phone calls from “Mother,” mysterious messages, and — last but not least — new murders. The question arises: is Norman really cured?
