The reconstruction of a staged show trial from the 1930s using Soviet archive material. With cool precision, it reveals the mechanics of a system that reduces truth to a formality – ‘24 lies per second’ (Loznitsa). The sterile stage, the ritualised language, the rigid body language – everything seems like a strictly choreographed theatre of power – and more relevant today than one might think.
