Prince of Darkness
The Brotherhood of Sleep, a secret order of the Catholic Church, has guarded a vessel containing a swirling green liquid for centuries. The last member of the order dies before he can warn the cardinal that the sleeper is awakening. A priest (Donald Pleasence) finds a key that leads him to the cylinder's hiding place beneath Saint Goddard's monastery. Deeply disturbed, he asks quantum physicist Howard Birack (Victor Wong) to analyse the substance with his students. John Carpenter takes the idea of combining religion with the concepts of matter and antimatter to unbearable extremes. With its dark dream sequences and the possibility of looking evil straight in the face, Prince of Darkness not only serves as food for thought, but also as a terrifying portrayal of the world that might await us.
