Primadonna (Das Mädchen von Morgen)
Sicily in the 60s. Lia is 21 years old, beautiful, wilful and reserved, but also self-confident. She would rather work in the fields with her father than help her mother with the housework. Lorenzo, the son of the mafia boss in the village, is fascinated by her. After an initial flirtation, however, she dares to reject him. He then resorts to brutal violence. According to tradition, she should now marry him, because a ‘reparation marriage’ would save her ‘honour’. But Lia does what no one would have expected: she denounces Lorenzo as her rapist and embarks on a personal and legal battle for self-determination.
A courageous young woman ahead of her time. A true story that caused a huge stir in Italy at the time. And a gripping film that tells a story for the present day with Lia's fight against patriarchal moral concepts.
Austrian premiere at Nuovo Cinema Italia and can be seen regularly in cinemas from 04.07.2025.
