Premières solitudes (Young Solitude)
Claire Simon was commissioned by the city of Ivry-sur-Seine to make a short film with the support of pupils from a secondary school class specialising in film. The result is a touching feature-length film based on interviews that the young people conducted with each other. The starting point was the question of experiences with the loneliness that gives the film its title. When the teenage girls and boys talk to each other, sharing their feelings, dreams and worries in different constellations, they do so with great openness and empathy, supporting and comforting each other. The themes are not only love and friendship, but above all their life situations with their parents (who are often divorced and therefore absent), and how much recognition, affection and therefore self-esteem they receive from home. A plea for solidarity and self-empowerment. (Andrea Pollach)
