Popeye: I yam what I yam, and I yam what I yam that I yam.

A picture frame with a note saying ‘Me Poppa’ instead of a photo is all the rugged but good-natured sailor Popeye (Robin Williams) needs as an emotional anchor and motivation to search for his father, who has been missing since childhood. This mission washes him to the harbour of the small coastal town of Sweethaven, where he finds shelter with the Oyl family and soon gives his heart to the daughter of the house, Olive Oyl (Shelley Duvall). An unexpected adoption, trouble with the local ruffian Bluto (Paul L. Smith) and a hidden treasure in the tentacles of a giant squid are the additional wind in the sails of the story.
