POOJA, SIR

Two boys are kidnapped in a border town in southern Nepal. Inspector Pooja's investigation - sent from Kathmandu to solve the case - is complicated by everyday misogyny, systematic discrimination against the Madhesi population and political influence. Against a backdrop of flaring unrest, she and her Madhesi colleague Mamada doggedly follow the clues and evidence. The crime story leads deep into a society characterised by patriarchal structures, homophobia and racism towards Nepalese of a darker skin colour.
