The portrait of a giraffe in an inn attracts the attention of two young painters travelling through. The innkeeper tells them about the artist: a loner who cannot grasp the huckster spirit of his surroundings and travels the country as a commercial and travelling painter "wherever the wind blows him". He trades his paintings for food or a place to sleep, allows himself to be exploited and humiliated ... While the aesthetics are derived from Pirosmani's visual language (flat tableaux, stylised arrangements), Schengelaia "does not simply tell the story of this painter, he shows us people, landscapes and things as Pirosmani might have seen them. The film is a school of observation, it wants to open our eyes and teach us to marvel." (Horst Knietzsch) (red)
