Year1972

Duration93min.

Competition between two families from Idaho for the title of "meanest person" in the world.

The drag queen Divine lives under the pseudonym "Babs Johnson" together with her mother Edie, Cracker's criminal son, and Cotton, a like-minded companion who is addicted to voyeurism. After the Marbles, Divine's enemies, find out that Divine has been named the "filthiest person alive" by a newspaper, they set out to seize the title.

In Pink Flamingos, the then underground filmmaker John Waters provoked his puritanical compatriots by turning ethical and aesthetic value systems upside down. His satire about the American craving for recognition, for which any means is good, is full of grotesque scenes of violence and pornographic shock elements, and even the director himself proudly described his own work as "shabby" and a "lesson in bad taste".
