Peter Voss, der Held des Tages

Georg Marischka was apparently Otto Wilhelm - O. W. for short - Fischer's favourite director for a while. First he congenially assisted him in his second attempt at play direction (HANUSSEN, 1955), then he directed him in several works, albeit unnamed in some cases. In the first of these - PETER VOSS - their two playful instincts combine in the most bucolic way: Fischer, who fortunately was never too good for any stage sleight of hand and thus found his way to an irritatingly modern cinema play, lets it rip here as a charmer and master of all masquerades, while Marischka keeps the farce about all kinds of swindlers on the French coast going with all his creative cosmopolitanism. A small masterpiece!
