Peggy Sue (Kathleen Turner) has divorced her husband Charlie (Nicholas Cage) because he prefers to have fun with other women instead of looking after his family. However, as she doesn't want to go to the 25-year reunion alone and wants to avoid conversations about her divorce, she quickly takes her daughter Beth (Helen Hunt) with her. However, as the graduating class naturally reminisces about such an event, the marriage between Peggy and Charlie, who got married straight after high school, is also discussed. When Peggy is then elected prom queen alongside former nerd Richard (Barry Miller), she is so upset that she faints. When she regains consciousness, she finds herself back in 1960, the year she graduated ...

This touching romantic comedy features a convincing female lead (Kathleen Turner received an Oscar nomination for her performance) and a strong supporting cast, including up-and-coming actors Jim Carrey, Joan Allen and Helen Hunt as well as established actors Maureen O'Sullivan and John Carradine.
