Pandoras Vermächtnis
To this day, the fractures and contradictions in the life and work of G. W. Pabst, one of the greats of Weimar cinema, invite speculation. Angela Christlieb approaches this important filmmaker through his family: on the one hand there is Trude, his wife and collaborator, whose thoughts and memories take up a very special space, whose traces lead deep into the material of Pabst's films and bring hidden autobiographical elements to light; on the other hand there are his three grandchildren Marion, Daniel and Ben. Their stories not only complement and counter-speak, their own lives outline those of their grandparents. Power, gender relations, emotional distances: PANDORAS VERMÄCHTNIS questions the chain of continuity that family inevitably means. (red)
