OUTRAGE begins with a crime: Ann is raped on her way home. Traumatised, the young woman turns her back on her family and her fiancé and starts a new life under a false name on an orange plantation. But she cannot escape her horror so easily.

"The subject matter alone was probably risky and taboo enough at the time this film was made. Ann feels cut off, lost, torn out of context. Processes such as the inspector's questions, the mechanical stamping of documents and the nervous tapping of her colleagues' fingers in the office become a tormenting ghostly rhythm detached from reality. She mysteriously says that she is now different from the others."
