Part of the special series LOOSELY HAMLET

Yvan (André Jocelyn), a young man from a wealthy family, experiences the sudden death of his father and the rapid remarriage of his mother (Alida Valli) to his uncle (Claude Cerval). These events throw him off balance, and he begins to obsessively identify with Hamlet. What starts as a reaction to grief turns into an increasingly radical staging of his own role within the family drama.

As Yvan attempts to reconstruct the truth behind his father’s death, he forces those around him into a game of suspicion, manipulation, and emotional blackmail. The boundaries between reality and literary source material begin to blur, and Yvan increasingly loses himself in the character he believes he is imitating. The tragedy arises not from external intrigue, but from the psychological entanglement of a young man who no longer recognizes himself.
