Ohne diese Welt
Argentina, 2016: In a forgotten region in the hot north, around 700 Mennonites of German descent live as they did in the 18th century. They speak old Low German and live from farming and cattle breeding. Instead of cars, they use horse-drawn carriages and their only school books are the Bible and the catechism. Their religion forbids electricity, telephones and radios. Life is not supposed to be comfortable.
Instead, they live as pious a life as possible for God in their colony and hope that their children will also continue on this path. These Mennonites want to avoid the influence of the ‘world’ - as they call everything outside their religious community - as far as possible, which is why they came here from Mexico 18 years ago. But is it really possible to refuse progress? Without this world, they observe the life of a quiet society caught between isolation and change.
