The Way begins in St Jean Pied de Port, a small French town at the foot of the Pyrenees. From there, countless people set off every year to reach Santiago de Compostela, 800 kilometres away. Experience big and small moments of happiness with the pilgrims, impressive landscapes and interesting encounters. Climb steep mountain passes with them, cross barren plateaus and revel in green landscapes. The emotional finale is the arrival at the great cathedral - a moving spectacle. The film shows you what it's really like to take on this gruelling journey - and to find yourself a little further along the way.

"Being happy can be so easy!" - Gabi Röhrl often thought to herself when she was travelling the Way of St. James. The Holledau native wanted to convey this feeling to others. That's why the self-taught walker set about realising a seemingly impossible undertaking: To document a pilgrimage on film - alone, but with professional film equipment. With the help of many kind people and her experience as an author and editor, she has created a small work of art.
