Nóz W Wodzie

FromROMAN POLAŃSKI

Year1962

Duration94min.

In his films, Roman Polański repeatedly tells of people trapped - whether in the Warsaw ghetto, a house on the coast, a living room in New York or, as here, first in a car and then on a sailing boat. And time and again he demonstrates that the prisons are primarily within ourselves. This is also the case in his debut film, which immediately received an Oscar nomination: A middle-class couple are on their way to a weekend at the lake. On the way there, they pick up a young hitchhiker. What starts out as a harmless exchange of words slowly develops into an aggressive competition between the stuffy journalist and the rebellious stranger. One in which sympathies increasingly shift. The simple constellation becomes an ambiguous, enormously exciting chamber play. (Florian Widegger)
