NOW!
An early music video meets anti-American propaganda: the great Cuban documentary filmmaker Santiago Álvarez assembles clips from news broadcasts and photos showing police violence against black people in the USA and the actions of the Ku Klux Klan in a rousing rhythm. He arranged the images to the protest song “Now!” by US singer Lena Horne, which was released shortly after the March on Washington - famous for Martin Luther King's “I have a dream” speech, among other things. The song was banned in the United States, but in this film it unfolded its full explosive power.

BORN IN FLAMES
1983, USA
LIZZIE BORDEN
Ten years after a socialist revolution, the USA is ruled by a single party. The promise of liberation to women has never been fulfilled. In New York, female radio pirates broadcast critical programs and a “Women's Army” takes to the streets to fight assaultive men. After an important Black activist dies in police custody, the means of feminist resistance become more radical. Black power and queer feminism go hand in hand in this rediscovered gem of guerrilla filmmaking, staged with rebellion music from Billie Holiday to punk.
