The Austrian constitution states that “power is derived from the people” - but who are the people when over a third of the population in Vienna is now not entitled to vote?

Everyone has an opinion on this, but very few have concrete knowledge - access to Austrian citizenship. Based on the director's own experience of feeling more alien than ever after her failed attempt to naturalize in Austria, this film deconstructs the controversial concept of “we”: Who are “we”, who are the supposed “others”? What is human about it, what is a social construct? Which “we” do we choose ourselves, which one is ascribed to us and which one can we no longer get rid of?

“Noch lange keine Lipizzaner” invites us to reflect on various cinematic levels, shows the absurdities of Austrian naturalization laws and takes a close look at the nation state and its constructed feelings, learned phrases and seemingly inviolable rules of belonging.
