For the third and final time, Margareta Heinrich returns to the country that is so crucial to her film work: from the Jalapa region on the border with Honduras, her journey takes her to the south and the poorest region of the country. Five years after the fall of the dictatorial regime, democratic elections are due to be held again in Nicaragua. The situation is tense, because while there are isolated cases of unrest within the country, there is a threat of trouble, especially from outside, as the USA begins to clean up its ‘backyard’ in accordance with the Reagan Doctrine and flexes its muscles in neighbouring countries. NO PASARAN thus embeds the events in the country in a global context and tells of the country's reconstruction under difficult conditions. (Florian Widegger)
