No Cakes from the Homefront
When the Yom Kippur War broke out in October 1973 with the attack on Israel by Egypt and Syria, over 350,000 reservists were called up. Within 72 hours, Israeli women found themselves in a world without men – and this lasted for eight long months. What makes this film so special is the thought-provoking interweaving of the voices of Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir and Egyptian First Lady Jihan Sadat with the voices of Israeli women from all walks of life. Haifa International Film Festival 2025: Best Artistic Achievement Award.
The supporting film WATER is about the mystical, intimate and real power of water to connect people, Jewish and Palestinian women.
