Night Courier

The absolute surprise hit at the Saudi Arabian box office at the beginning of 2024 not only exceeded all expectations of the film's production company: a contemporary film noir set in a Riyadh that is literally enveloped in eternal night. Together with the rather good-natured Fahad, who has a sick father at home, we rush through the capital in a feverish search for ways of earning money to pay for his father's costly treatment. And together with him, we become more and more entangled in a rapid downward spiral that leads directly into the clutches of the underworld and calls Fahad's integrity into question. Whether a real life is possible in a false one - or, as the film's director put it, truthfulness in a world in which cynicism is a kind of survival strategy - is still best reflected upon in the cinema. A thriller that lives up to its name and to Saudi Arabian cinema.
