February 23, 2024 was another sad low point in Austria's femicide history: five women and girls were murdered in a single day because of their gender. In 2023, a total of 26 femicides were recorded, making Austria the country with the highest rate of femicides in the entire EU. For their radio feature, Janina Böck-Koroschitz and Elisabeth Weilenmann met many people dealing with the issue, including survivor Renate Daurer, psychiatrist Adelheid Kastner and doctor Peter Klar, who prevented a femicide. They present preventive measures, report on activism and show how civil courage can save lives.
