In a post-apocalyptic future, the Earth is a desolate wasteland. The spores of a mushroom forest are life-threatening for humanity. They also feel threatened by the giant Ohmu insects.
The young princess Nausicaä from the Valley of the Winds, one of the last oases on earth, thinks quite differently. Nausicaä's goal is peaceful coexistence between humans and animals. Her adversary is Princess Kushana from the kingdom of Torumekia. She ruthlessly attacks the Valley of the Winds. She wants to dry up the Sea of Rot and eradicate the insects. She ignores the fact that they are vital to the earth system and ignores the prophecy of the elders that a destructive flood of insects is imminent.
